Liberated Halloween: OCT 31 Thriller Dance Class

Happy Halloween from Spiderman's Brooklyn abode.

Happy Halloween from Spiderman’s Brooklyn abode.

Nothing screams “Halloween” quite like Michael Jackson’s 1984 record and hit music video, “Thriller”. Who hasn’t watched the video without attempting to mimic the zombie shoulder shimmy and foot shuffle done masterfully by Jackson and his dancers? Wouldn’t it be great to learn the actual dance steps?

You can, October 31 with Liberated Movement. Come (in costume if you fancy) and learn the choreography to Jackson’s ’80s classic, while enjoying some candy and treats for as little as five dollars.

In 2010, Lauren Pellettieri and Elizabeth Fielder launched Liberated Movement, a non-profit organization that offers donation-based dance (ballet, hip-hop, salsa and more) classes in New York City. Frustrated with the high price of dance classes in the city and a dance studio culture that was less than welcoming, they started LM to make dance both financially and socially accessible to anyone with a desire to move. A suggested donation of five dollars is sought for their hour-long classes, although they do say you can give what you can. LM now offers Masala Bhangra® classes on Wednesdays in San Francisco, too.
